Healthy Holiday Warm Wellness Drinks

These recipes are vegan, dairy-free, and gluten-free.  They are also to make a bulk supply to last you for days, weeks, or months.  If you follow the links, you can see how to just make a cup at a time, but I love these so much and drink them regularly that I love just having a jar of ready-to-make, just-add-water mixed for a quick and easy pick-me-up warm up!

Note: Most of these ingredients can be found on VitaCost.com, or Amazon.com, grocery stores that carry a lot of dairy-free and gluten-free items, or specialty stores.

Golden Milk

Golden Milk is Solid Gold!  I love think drink because of its natural healing properties, its taste, and the all over warm feeling one gets from drinking it.  Drink before bed for a calm, relaxing warmth.

INGREDIENTS
  • 2 cups of coconut milk powder* or plant milk powder of choice
  • 1 cup of coconut palm sugar
  • ½ cup of turmeric powder
  • ¼ cup of ginger powder
  • 2 teaspoons of black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon of Himalayan/pink salt
Options for flavors:
  • A pinch of spice: ½ teaspoon of cayenne spice
  • Vanilla bean pod, split and scooped out or 1 tsp of vanilla bean powder, or add liquid vanilla added to your drink (usually just a drop works)
  • My "cheat" is a packet of Better Stevia - French Vanilla Stevia to add some sweetness and a boost of creamy vanilla flavor.

HOW TO MAKE
  1. Place all the dry ingredients in a deep bowl and mix them well.
  2. Mix 1 tablespoon (or more if you like yours stronger) to 1 cup of hot water.
  3. For added texture (and natural lip balm) add a spoonful of coconut oil and mix with an immersion blender if available or stir in well.
  4. Store in a tightly sealed mason jar and don’t fill the bottle to the top, leaving room to shake it before you use it.

Vegan Hot Cocoa

Picture
Nothing is better than a cup of warm hot cocoa!  There are tons of ways to make this recipe and many ways to "spice" it up!

INGREDIENTS
  • 1/2 cup cocoa powder
  • 3/4 cup coconut milk powder
  • 1 cup coconut palm sugar

INSTRUCTIONS
  1. Sift all three ingredients together and whisk together.
  2. Add 3 Tablespoons of hot cocoa mix to one cup of water. (You can add more cocoa mix if you prefer.) Stir well and enjoy!
  3. Boost this flavor with my favorite cheat - Better Stevia French Vanilla Stevia, Peppermint, Cayenne Pepper or Chili Powder, or Vegan Marshmallows!
  4. I love to add a spoonful of coconut oil and mix with an immersion blender for added texture (and natural lip balm).

Thai Chi Chai Tea

Picture
I always mix up Chai Tea and Thai Chi, so I named this with both!  Chai is a bold warm drink with lots of spices that are great for inflammation and gut microbiota balancing!

Ingredients
  • 2 cups coconut milk powder
  • 1/4 cup French vanilla Stevia by Better Stevia
  • 2 ½ cups coconut palm sugar
  • 1 ½ cups Dandy Blend Instant Herbal Blend
  • 2 tsp ground ginger
  • 2 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 3/4 tsp ground cloves
  • 1 tsp ground cardamom
  • 1 tsp nutmeg
  • 1 tsp allspice
  • ¼ tsp white pepper
Note: The coconut palm sugar and dandy blend make this drink darker than most chai teas, but its taste still packs a punch without all the sugar and dairy.

Instructions
  1. Combine all ingredients in a food processor and blend until it is a fine powder (If you have a small food processor, you can combine just the instant tea and spices in the food processor & then combine everything together in a bowl) or you can do what I did, and just mix by hand in a large bowl.  It just feels good to have all those spices running through your fingers.
  2. Add two or three tablespoons of mix to 8 ounces of hot water or non-milk
  3. For added texture, of course you know what I'm going to suggest, 1 spoonful of coconut oil!  Seriously though, it really helps with the wintery chapped lips!
